About Making Notes: “As part of my garden practice, I keep a detailed journal full of notes throughout the season: when seeds were planted, feeding and watering schedules, and successes and failures. Each January, I get out my notebook along with all my seed packets and current seed catalogs and spend time planning the garden for the upcoming year. It’s one of my favorite things about winter. This piece represents what I feel during those cold winter months: joy and warmth looking ahead toward longer days and future abundance of the land.”

Kayla King is an abstract painter from the Central Coast of California. She finds inspiration within the natural world, specifically and landscape and in her home garden. Finished works largely influenced by water and earth: the motion, energy, sound, and texture all playing a large role what is translated to the finished piece. Stories are told in overlapping layers and marks, creating an expressive visual language that seeks to suspend a moment or memory in time.
